Matt Skelhon won an individual Silver medal at ISCH in Germany, his first competition since the 2016 Paralympic Games, as GB claimed Team Gold.
In unpredicatable conditions Skelhon qualified in third for R6 (50m Rifle Prone Mixed SH1) and climbed a place in the final finishing behind old foe Veronika Vadivicova of Slovakia.
In qualification Skelhon scored 617.7 with Lorraine Lambert just 0.2 behind in fourth with 617.5. Ben Jesson was the other member of the GB team and his 607.2 for 16th place was good enough to ensure GB took Team Gold ahead of Slovakia.
Skelhon started the final in fine form with a 10.9 on his first shot. After the first competition stage he led Vadivicova by 0.2. However a 9.3 on his first elimination shot was enough to give the Slovak a lead she would not relinquish and 19.7 in the penultimate elimination round against Vadivicova's 20.9 put paid to his chances of Gold. He finished on 249.7 with Vadivicova on 251.5.
Lambert had a lot of ground to make up after three shots under ten in the fist competition stage of the final. She made it through the first elimination round but couldn't claw it back and finished in 7th place.
The competitition continues on Monday 8th May with Lambert going again in R8 and the first of Stewart Nangle's three events in P3.
