The North qualifier for the Target Sprint National Series took place last weekend at the Northern Shooting Show.

It was a fantastic opportunity to see how the sport has evolved and grown since its introduction to the UK in 2016.

The event drew large crowds from the Northern Shooting Show who were interested in watching a new and exciting sport that combines running and shooting to create an exhilarating spectator and participant experience.

The standard run distance for each running section of Target Sprint is 400m. Athletes run this before shooting down five targets with a rifle. They then run another 400 metres, shoot five more targets and then complete a final 400 metre run.

At the Northern Shooting Show we also ran a number of races over the weekend at the shorter run distance of 200m, to enable more people to participate.

There was a diverse range of genders and ages taking part in the event from 9 years old, right up to 60.

The top senior performance in the full distance over the weekend was David Ewing (29yrs), who showed excellent potential despite never taken part in Target Sprint before.

The fastest time of the weekend, over the full Target Sprint distance (400m) was Victoria Bradbury, (Youth Girl category 6mins 5secs), narrowly beating Sam Hopson (Junior Boy 6mins 7secs).

Congratulations to all the athletes who competed excellently to qualify for the National Final which will be held on Saturday 9th September at YOSC (Yate Outdoor Sports Complex). Those who qualified are:

Thank you to the Northern Shooting Show for providing this opportunity to showcase our sport to the public. As well as the British Young Shooters Association and our whole volunteer team for helping over the weekend.

We'd also like to thank our partner, Air Arms, whose support makes the event possible. They also supply the Air Arms Experience where spectators can experience the thrill of shooting an air rifle.
