Last weekend at the Lord Roberts Centre in Bisley, British Shooting in partnership with the Council for Cadet Rifle Shooting and NSRA delivered a training day specifically for cadets.
Cadets from across UK with an interest in the Olympic rifle shooting disciplines and the talent pathway for these were invited. Practical and classroom sessions were delivered by GB Talent Squad coaches Craig Dower and Andrew Nimmo.
The standard of shooting was excellent with many of those in attendance being signposted towards the appropriate regional squads for them. We also hope that one or two may also apply for selection into the GB Talent Squad itself in the near future.
One of the attendees said on the day, Jemima Hince, said: “The day was a lot of fun and a good way to meet other shooters and interact with people we had not previously met.
“The training was enjoyable and the competition at the end allowed us to push ourselves and work as a team. For me the most useful part of the day was analysing our shot routines by breaking it down into lots of steps; this allowed us to discuss the different ways of doing things and improvement we could make to our shooting”.
Given the level of engagement of all involved in this event from organisers to cadet instructors, the coaches, and of course the cadets themselves, we will look to arrange and announce further training days shortly.
