British Shooting is delighted that the 2022 Commonwealth Games will be coming to England, and our congratulations go to the city of Birmingham.
It will give athletes from across all the home countries in the UK a wonderful opportunity to compete on home soil.
However, we are deeply disappointed that shooters, not only from the home countries, but across all the Commonwealth nations – large and small – will not be able to take part.
We are surprised by reports that the Birmingham bid team considered Bisley National Shooting Centre, for example, to be too far away; Bisley having hosted a successful event when the Games were last held in England, in Manchester in 2002.
We are disappointed also, that the Birmingham team did not seek to discuss options with British Shooting or the home country associations with a view to finding a creative, innovative and supportive solution.
We remain open to a dialogue with Birmingham and the CGF, and indeed with the support of our international federation (the ISSF) and all the shooting sport family across the Commonwealth, we would urge the organisers of the 2022 Games to find a way.
