British Shooting is excited to launch the dates and venues for the 2018/19 Schools Pistol Championships.
This year’s competition sees seven qualifying events across England, Scotland and Wales, where athletes and teams have the opportunity to represent their school and qualify for the National Final.
The three age categories for individual and school teams are Junior, Intermediate and Senior, to ensure students from Year 6/P6 to Year 13/S6 are eligible to compete in this mixed gender and ability Championships.
Gorgs Geikie, British Shooting Events and Commercial Coordinator, said: “We’re thrilled with the positive feedback from the athletes, teachers, parents, coaches and the shooting community about the championships and its future.
“The addition of two qualifying events in the North East and East of England is welcomed as the Championships gains an ever-expanding geographical coverage.”
We’re proud to have GB Athletes Kristian Callaghan and Issy Bailey as the Championship’s Ambassadors. Issy is currently competing in South Korea at the World Para Sports Championships and Kristian, after competing at the World University Championships, flew straight to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, where he reached the Free Pistol final. While out in Australia, Kristian competed alongside fellow home nations pistol shooters, Coral Kennerly & Craig Auden (Wales), Aeden Evans, Jess Liddon & Caroline Brownlie (Scotland) and English team mates Victoria Mullin & Sam Gowin. Coral and Jess attained finals places and Sam returned with a Bronze Medal.
Callaghan said: “I've really enjoyed being a part of the Schools Pistol Championships so far. It's been really exciting seeing the quality of shooting we have available at the grass roots level.
“I'm really looking forward to continuing to inspire current and new pistol athletes into our sport and discovering more untapped talent!”
Entry for the qualifying events will soon be announced, so watch this space! Along with location details for the South East Championships.
