Jen McIntosh qualified for the ISSF World Cup Finals in
Bangkok in October and set a new British Final record with a total of 658.2 at
the ISSF World Cup in Munich. And with the Olympics edging ever closer results like this
will only strengthen her belief and show she can compete at the highest level. There was cause for more celebration for Jen as her
qualifying shooting rounds of 585 equalled the British record in the Women’s 3P
Rifle earlier in the day. Jen’s 585 in qualifying was made up of a perfect 200 prone,
193 (96, 97) standing and 192 (98, 94) kneeling. This was one point ahead of
her previous best although she did shoot a 586 earlier in the year but it did
not count for record purposes as it was on an indoor range in Dortmund. She qualified for the final in 7th place where she fired another
10 shots which scored her decimally 100.2 and moved her up to 6th in the
standings with a total of 685.2, four points better than the previous British
record. This was Jen’s first final at a World Cup and only her 7th
World Cup with her previous best being 10th place finishes in Fort Benning and
Belgrade. At Fort Benning she only failed on making the final through a
shoot-off. As well as her British record Jen shot 396 in the Air Rifle
which was off final pace but her best score at a World Cup to date and only one
off her PB. Jen clinched a place at the World Cup Final in Bangkok with
her score and placing and this should be a good challenge for her as she will
put to the test against the top qualifiers from throughout the year in addition
to the current champion and the medallists from this year’s Olympics and World
Championships. On her strong showing in Munich, Jen said, “I'm delighted
with the progress shown in Munich, building on an intensive period of training
camps in Qatar, Magaliesburg (South Africa) & Hannover and competitions in
Dortmund, London & Hannover over the last three months.”
