The last qualifying round of the British Shooting Schools Pistol Championships was a sell-out success.
Held at Ellesmere College, the Northern event saw athletes travel as far as from Northern Ireland, Isle of Wight and across the country eager to win the last Quota Places available for the National Final in January.
Ellesmere College dominated the Junior category taking gold, silver and bronze team medals. But it was Josh Holden from Ballakermeen High School who took the individual gold medal.
Individual Intermediate Gold went to Kiril Voitiukevicius from Hollgate Academy, who also was the top scoring athlete of the day in qualifying (181/200) and Finals (219). St Nicholas Catholic High School (Ella Booth, Kiera Booth and Hannah Burrows) proved the strongest team to take Intermediate Team Gold.
Although Max Saveker (Fairfax Academy) and Harriet Watson (Stafford Grammar) had the equal highest Senior qualification score, it was Joeseph Baker from Shavington Academy who’s performance shone in the Final to take individual Gold. With Ellesmere College winning Team Gold.
British Shooting Events and Commercial Coordinator Gorgs Geikie was thrilled with not only the great performances throughout the day, but also the popularity of the event. She said: “We had over 140 entrants, proving the great interest and strength of pistol shooting at the grassroots.
"I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped on the day, particularly the West Midlands Regional Squad and Ellesmere College, whom without the event wouldn’t have been possible.”
Following the Northern Qualifying event, all the Quota Places for the National Final have been awarded.
We look forward to seeing all these athletes and teams at Stoke Mandeville on Wednesday 17th January, where the National titles for the 2017/18 will take place.
