All the qualifying events for the British Shooting Schools Pistols Championships are complete!

Our around the country whistle-stop-tour kindly partnered by GunTrader came to a climax on Wednesday at Ellesmere College for the West Midlands Championships, where the last automatic quota places for the National Final were decided.

The event lived up to its past high quality and high quantity entries, with 55 schools being represented by 130 athletes and teams.

Performances were high across all the three age groups. In the Junior category for students in school years 6, 7 & 8 the battle for gold was won by Lucinda Evans from The Chantry, closely followed by Francine Gilmore representing Ellesmere College. Both athletes had already won a National Final Quota Place and therefore the three available places rolled down the leader board to Jessica Barrance, Lina Booth and Abi Agami.

Nakita Wright from Holbrook Primary School also won a National Final Quota Place to compete in the disability category at the National Final.
The gold in the Intermediate class (for students in school years 9 & 10) was won by Jasmyn Slater-Morris from Newport Girls High School. Ozzy Burrow and Elena Philips-Waring won the silver and bronze medals respectfully.

And last but by no means least, the event came to a tremendous close with the Senior Final (students in years 11, 12 & 13) where Joe Baker from South Cheshire College claimed the gold medal with a perfect 20/20 score from his final 2 shots. The silver and bronze medals, along with National Final Quota places went to Harriet Watson and Megan Jones representing Stafford Grammar and Malvern College respectfully.

The team events at the West Midlands Championships were the strongest seen in the 2018/19 season with 14 school teams entered in the Junior,
Intermediate and Senior categories. But the West Midlands Team Champions, who also won an automatic quota place for the National Final were: St Thomas More High School (Junior Team Champions) and both the Intermediate & Senior Team Championships were won by Ellesmere College.

Gorgs Geikie, British Shooting Events & Commercial Coordinator said: “We would like to thank Ellesmere College for their continued support of this fantastic event as well as Event Coordinator Trevor Haynes and his team from the West Midlands and North West regions, for completing the qualifying stage for the BS Schools Pistol Championships in such a spectacular way!

“The strength-in-depth and quality of the athlete’s performances were evident throughout and a true tribute to the West Midlands Regional Development Squad which was set up two years ago following the first British Shooting Schools Pistol Championships event held at Ellesmere by Jim Quinlan.

“Bring on the new year and the nail-biting National Final. New year, plus new talent, equals a bright future for our sport.”

National Final held at Stoke Mandeville on Wednesday 16th January promises not to be missed!

The top 3 individual athletes in each age group from the seven regional qualification events have earned their quota places to compete shoulder-to-shoulder in the National Individual Championships. (See Individual Qualified list below). These athletes must take up their places by entering by clicking here.

This also applies to the top team in each age group from the 7 regional qualification events. However, athletes who have qualified as part of a team can only take part in the National Team Championships. (See Individual Qualified list below). These athletes must take up their places by entering by clicking here.

Championships Reserves; with the qualifying rounds of the 2018-19 Championships complete, the top three athletes and top team from the amalgamated 2018-19 Championships results have also won a quota place to compete at the National Final. This list will also be referred to if automatically qualified athletes or teams can’t attend for any reason.

We’re also thrilled that a number of disability athletes have also competed in the qualifying rounds and earned their quota places at the National Final. They will complete alongside all the individual competitors in the separate Disability National Championships.
