With only a few days to go until the beginning of the 2012 Olympic Games, the excitement surrounding the start of the games is quickly building momentum.
The Torch is on the home stretch in London this week before it takes its place inside the Olympic stadium on Friday.
And for the 11 members of the Team GB Shooting squad the hard work that has been put in over the years and sacrifices made are all going to be proven worth it when they parade behind their flag this Friday.
It is a squad that combines the experience of Peter Wilson, a world record holder, and Richard Faulds, a former Olympic champion, with the youthful exuberance of Olympic debutants Jennifer McIntosh, a British record holder and James Huckle.
Throw in triple Commonwealth gold medallist Charlotte Kerwood into the mix and you have the backbone of a strong squad with huge potential.
Also participating in what will be her second Olympic Games is Elena Allen.
Allen has tasted success before with a European silver and World Cup title which she won with a new world record. She will be hopeful to follow these successes with another medal in the coming weeks.
Add to this Ed Ling in the trap, Georgina Geikie in the pistol, Jonathan Hammond in the rifle and Richard Brickell and Rory Warlow in the skeet you can see the quality that this shooting squad possesses.
So with the squad settled in at the Athletes’ Village, all the focus for the squad turns to their first event. But for now they will no doubt be enjoying the final preparations to the biggest competition of their careers.
