Spread the Love of Shooting!

I love my shooting sport! My own passion is Olympic Trap, but for others, it could be something different – there’s certainly something for everybody in shooting, from clay shooting to target shooting.

I started clay shooting after a friend encouraged me to give it a go at the West Midlands Game Fair. I hit 2 out of 4 and was completely and utterly hooked.  I can thank that friend for bringing something into my life – it would become a passion and such a major part of my life, and it has taken me around the world training and competing.  It has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs, but the ups have been worth it.  I have collected individual and team medals, I have stretched myself and achieved more than I could have imagined. As well as competing, I have now started my journey as a shooting coach and I am excited about where that will take me.

I love to see the sport that I love so much, grow.  I love to see more and more women taking part in what was traditionally seen as a male sport.  Internationally, participation by women has grown year on year and the number of women competing in Olympic Trap and Olympic Skeet at World Championships has almost tripled in 20 years. Here in Great Britain numbers are growing – with clubs like the Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club and Femme Fatales, more and more women are trying clay shooting.

Now Christmas is almost upon us.  It’s a time of year for giving and sharing.  Well, how about sharing your love of shooting sports?

Stuck for a present to give a friend (or thinking of your own Christmas wish list)? How about getting them an introductory shooting lesson with an instructor. If they are already into shooting, how about a lesson on one of the Olympic disciplines?

We all start somewhere and you never know where that journey may take us…..
