Great Britain’s Target Sprint team have won three junior medals after Emily Shawyer secured silver and Charlotte Huddart and Morten Van Der Schee won bronze at the ISSF Changwon World Championships.

After being introduced to the GB national event calendar two years ago, Target Sprint has gone from strength to strength, and it’s an incredible achievement to see athletes who have only been shooting the discipline for a short amount of time, come away with an ISSF medal.

Emily, who won her first international medal at the event, with a time of 5:19.98, said: “It’s absolutely amazing. Target Sprint is growing massively, there’s new countries competing here that we haven’t seen before and it’s great to see.

The track over here was gritty so we had to take the corners slower as they were the hardest areas to deal with, but we took it all in our stride.”

Charlotte, won bronze with a time of 5:30.91, and was ecstatic. She said: “I’m completely blown away. I wasn’t expecting this at all. It was one of the toughest courses we’ve ever ran on, but a great challenge.

I’m so shocked by how much effort and money has gone into the Target Sprint event over here. It’s the best shooting range I’ve ever come to.”

Morten, who won junior bronze with a time of 4:35.35, said: “I actually feels quite emotional because in training yesterday I wasn’t having the best time. I got an injury to my toe and my pelvis and my shooting wasn’t going great. But to come out today and smash the first heat and then come third in the final was amazing.

“It’s so hot and humid here. It’s hard, but the race was really enjoyable.”

Next time these athletes will be competing is the ISSF Target Sprint World Tour – British Open, Saturday 6th October, as part of the Target Sprint GB Festival. Spectators welcome!
