The Pathway
Are you interested in progressing in shotgun shooting but haven't been sure how to get involved?

Home Nation Talent Pathway
Each Home Nation has their own talent pathway in place to support the identification, recruitment and development of shooters. The respective sport councils support these:

Sport England, Sport Scotland, Sport Wales and Sport Northern Ireland.

British Shooting has the responsibility, in partnership with the CPSA, NSRA, NRA and ESSU for the England Talent Pathway in the Olympic disciplines.

England Talent Pathway
The diagram below represents the England Talent Pathway for shotgun and how it aligns
with the GB Performance Pathway.

England National Programme
The aim is to support the development, progression and transition of athletes on a National level to the GB Academy Programme (GBAP).

Regional Talent Programme
There are currently two Regional Talent Centre’s (RTC) who are responsible for identifying, recruiting and developing young Olympic discipline shotgun shooters. These are Nuthampstead Shooting Ground (Olympic Trap and Double Trap) and National Clay Shotgun Centre – Bisley (Olympic Skeet).

How are you selected?
• ETP coaches and British Shooting scouts identify and nominate shooters from clubs, schools, cadets, scouts and other junior programmes
• The ‘normal’ age of the ETP is 14-20
• Each year a number of talent identification days are held across England which shooters can apply to attend
• Shooters are selected on demonstrated potential and where applicable performance aligned to athlete profiles

What are we developing?
• The fundamental technical, tactical, physical, psychological and social learning outcomes required for the Olympic disciplines
• The ability to transition successfully from being a high potential England shooter to the GBAP

How is it done?
• Shooters receive up to 15 training sessions between May – October each year at the

Regional Talent Centres
• The England National Programme shooters get further training sessions to support their development
• There is the opportunity for the England National Programme shooters to train with the GBAP
• 1:1 and group coaching sessions are provided by British Shooting coaching staff
• Athlete development and performances are reviewed against athlete profiles and with a ‘Plan-Do-Review’ approach
• There is careful monitoring and management of workloads
• Foundation Sport Science and Sports Medicine development and support is provided
• Appropriate UK and International competition experience is provided
• There is the opportunity to train and compete abroad where selected
• Grant aid support is provided where applicable
